Documenting Parenthood: The Art of In-Home Sessions
Practically every household in America has a camera, thanks to the growing popularity of smartphones. This round-the-clock desire for everyday moments to be captured has elevated the awareness of non-portrait photographs and the number of families interested in a more candid approach to their annual photography session. Making great pictures indoors and telling a family’s story has slightly different challenges than outdoor portraits. This course is the first step for those professional photographers considering the addition of in-home client sessions to their offerings.
Upon completion of this course you will be ready to begin the following:
Identify the key difference between lifestyle and documentary photography.
Apply techniques in storytelling while photographing a family at their home.
Solicit and Prepare model families for in-home portfolio-building sessions.
Develop a plan to add or transition your business to in-home family sessions and price them for profit.
Create a mailing list to market your business to potential in-home family photography clients.
Your Instructor
Colie is an at-home family filmmaker + photographer based near Boulder, Colorado, available for sessions anywhere planes fly. When she is not documenting parenthood for her clients in their homes, she is likely planning her next trip to Disneyland or binging the latest Netflix show with a cocktail. Her camera loves people who make funny faces, hugs and kisses are a session requirement, and when someone throws a tantrum she clicks the shutter faster. If the odds are in her favor, she will survive the tween years with her 9-year old daughter and live to tell about it.
